RAIL BAND BACK ON WAX x 2!

The great and rare Buffet Hotel De La Gare from the Rail Band – amazing Mali music from a most pivotal and groundbreaking time in the group's early history – and some its best! At this point, the group was essentially the house band at the Buffet Hotel De La Gare – blending traditional Mandingo melodies and instrumentation with boundary free jazz and funk. Truly amazing work!

A pivotal piece of Mali music history – the first LP by The Rail Band – the Orchestre Rail-Band de Bamako album from 1970! This legendary material comes from their early days from their time at the Station Hotel of Bamako and were sponsored by Mali's Ministry Of Information – modernizing traditional Mali music and combining it with cross cultural soul, Latin percussion and more – paving the way for Afro Soul and funk to come.

RE-ISSUE ROUND UP

Bunch of re-issues dropped recently, covering some less traversed territories. Senegalese singer Idrissa Diop's pre-France career is examined in 'Diamonoye Tiopite L'Epoque De L'Evolution'. The set reveals the Cuban Descarga influence on the 70s Senegal scene.

Dig The 60s/70s psychedelic sounds found on the Roots of Chicha compilations? Then you are on the right track with 'El Sonido De Tupac Amaru'. Trippy production abounds, with echoes + delay, fuzzy guitars and groovy organs.

Originally released in 1977, L'Orchestre Kanaga De Mopti from Mali has a similar combination of vibes as the 'El Sonido' comp, mixing traditional Malian instrumentation and rhythms with some space-y production techniques, along with electric guitar and organ.

Akeeb Kareem's 'Blackman' was self-produced in Lagos, Nigeria in 1974. Soundway type of grooves here. Think Afro Psych Funk and you're getting warmer...

Nice to see some new labels getting in on the re-issue action too!
